June 6: Restore, Rest and Reflect
Today was all about taking it easy and relaxing until after the 'siesta' time. We have been going hard since we arrived on the morning of the 2nd, and this morning we all felt it. It was time to restore our energy, rest up, and reflect on our time here so far. So we spent the morning/early afternoon relaxing here at our condo.
The excitement of going to Spain/France was contagious among David, Anna Mae and I. Now that we have been here for several days....the pace got to us. I like taking my time to savor life these days, so slowing down was good.
Our world goes so fast at times, it can be easy to feel like we can hardly keep up with it. Then we lose the beauty of each day, and the gift that it is. It can be easy to feel like it is a burden to endure....not a gift to enjoy. Jesus said, in Matthew 11:28-30, 'Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.'
That's what I needed for the first 2/3 of the day today...to lay my cares at Jesus' feet and be restored, find rest, and reflect on the beauty of today. It was a simply lovely temperature out today. Warm and 76 degrees. That's fairly cool for we Floridians, but the humidity kept it good!
Taking the time to restore my energy, rest my mind, and reflect on my life and my experiences was fabulous today. Then, after we rested up, it was off to explore the downtown area we went. Here the stores open up the second time at about 5:00pm, and are open until about 8:00pm. We did a bit of shopping - AFTER I had my afternoon gelato and italian espresso.
We laughed, found some great deals, and met some fabulous people. We savored the evening, and the people. The Spaniards, and all the other tourists we met from all over Europe, were fun and very understanding of our language attempts in several languages! Their patience and sense of fun made for a great evening.
Then we topped it all off with a great meal of paella (for me) potatoes, ham and eggs (for Anna Mae, and pizza (for David). Being here at the many restaurants with street dining is so much fun! I really wish we had similar in the US. There are quite a few places that come close...but it still feels more relaxing to me over here.
A really good day today. Isn't it amazing that the more time we take to enjoy our day, the more our day becomes one to treasure? How was your day today?
