June 9: Castillo de Santa Maria, Basilica of Santa Maria and Concatedral de San Nicolas
A castle, a Basilica, and a Cathedral were on our 'to do' list as we headed to Alicante proper. There is a rich history here, and we wanted to see the big three! Can I say...wow! Alicante is stunning. We were hushed with awe as we made our way through these three historic places/buildings.
History is so appealing to me. Studying history can give us insight into what works in this world, and what is doomed to fail. Today we got a little more of an eye-opener. For me...it reminded me of several scriptural truths about the God I love and serve. First, the Castillo de Santa Maria.
The castillo was such a strong fortress. Set up on the hill with a 360 degree view of any troubles. This reminded me of how the Lord God is our strong tower. He sees everything. "The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe." (Proverbs 18:10) God is bigger than any trouble I may every face! I love that!
Next, the Basilica and Concatedral; both spiritual places. We got one photo inside the Basilica before we realized that we were not allowed to take photos. Here, the beauty of the ornate decorations and icons got me thinking about Solomon's temple. What must it have looked like? In all it's splendor it still cannot compare with heaven. Heaven will be even so much more beautiful still....wow!
